Annette Bening will headline the unique biopic "The Great" which is pegged as an irreverent toned comedy inspired by the life of 18th century Russian empress Catherine the Great according to Screen Daily.
Catherine was the longest-ruling female leader of Russia, as such, during the second half of the 18th century she revitalised the country into one of the great powers of Europe. Catherine's reign is often considered the Golden Age of the Russian Empire and the Russian nobility.
Gillian Armstrong will direct the movie from a script by Tony McNamara.
Marian Macgowan and Marco Mehlitz are producing the pic.
Production kicks off in September
