Oliver Hirschbiegel ("Downfall," "The Invasion") will direct the film which revolves around a secret affair between the late princess and heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan who was said to be the love of her life. Diana met Dr. Kahn at the Royal Brompton Hospital in 1995 when she was visiting a friend. The couple pursued a quiet two-year affair which he described as being serious enough she was thinking of converting to Islam
The screenplay by playwright Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine) will focus on a period when Diana found "true personal happiness" It's not known yet whether the film will delve into Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed, the princess's boyfriend who also died with her in the crash.
