Fernandez Takes Dead Redux Lead & Also Lands Deep Role

Shiloh Fernandez ("Red Riding Hood") has joined both the The Evil Dead remake and "Deep Powder" says Variety.

Fede Alvarez directs the pic and like the 1981classic, the story centers on five friends who journey up to a remote cabin where they discover the Book of the Dead and unwittingly unleash demonic forces.

Alvarez, Rodolfo Sayagues, and Diablo Cody worked on the script.

The search is now on for a female lead after actress Lily Collins had to drop out over scheduling issues.

This new version will NOT feature a character called Ash, the lead role played by  Bruce Campbell in the original. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Campbell will produce.

Shooting on it kicks off at the end of the month in New York City

"Uptown Girls" helmer Mo Ogrodnik writes and directs "Deep Powder", story details are under wraps.

Filming on 'Dead' starts later this year.
