Statham Feels The Heat

Jason Statham will star and Brian De Palma will direct a remake of "Heat" says Variety.

No no it's not Michael Mann's 1995 crime thriller classic, but rather the Burt Reynolds 1986 action film of the same name-- in which Reynolds played an ex-mercenary turned Vegas bouncer.

Hollywood heavyweight William Goldman wrote the novel and the adapted the script of both the original and this remake in which Statham will play a tough recovering gambling addict who makes a living providing protection. When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined. One difference to his usual outings - Statham's character hates guns, allowing for his fighting style to be restricted to hand and sharp edged weapon combat.

Steven Chasman will produce the film

Production will kick off in France in 2013
