Gears Of War Film Gets A Producer

Scott Stuber ("Ted," "Battleship") is set to produce the adaptation of the Gears of War movie based upon the Xbox 360 game says Variety.

New Line Cinema began developing the film in 2007 with "Underworld" and "Live Free or Die Hard" director Len Wiseman attached to direct, the project never took off due to the sizeable budget required. Writers Chris Morgan, Billy Ray and Stuart Beattie have all had cracks at the script at different points in time.

Set on the planet Sera, the game thrusts players into a battle for survival between humans and a race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet known as the Locust Horde. Players assume identities of soldiers on Delta Squad as they fight to save Sera's inhabitants.

The three games in the 'Gears' series thus far have sold over 13 million copies and netted $1 billion in sales since the first game droped in 2006.

The folks at Creative Artists Agency began the search for a major producer a few months ago. No distributor is in place, but Stuber has a first look deal with Universal Pictures.

The fourth game, Gears of War: Judgment is out. Epic Games is expected to consult on the film to ensure that fits into the canon established in the games and books.
