Universal Pictures has started negotiations with "Saw" and "Insidious" director James Wan to helm the next installment of the studio's Fast and the Furious film franchise says Deadline.
Wan would replace the departing Justin Lin who
revealed last week that he wasn’t going to direct the next film in part over the accelerated timetable. Wan has already received an endorsement for the gig from
Lin.
While a few other names have come up in the past week including Baltasar Kormákur
, Jeff Wadlow, Brad Furman and Harald Zwart. Wan has now reportedly become the choice with a deal expected to be closed within the next few days.
Both Vin Diesel and Paul
Walker are confirmed, while Dwayne
Johnson and Tyrese Gibson involvement is uncertain.
Chris Morgan will write the script for Fast & Furious 7 which Neal H. Moritz will produce
