McQuarrie On "Zebra" Remake--What About MI 5?

THR is reporting that Christopher McQuarrie will write and direct a remake of the Cold War thriller  Ice Station Zebra.

Based upon author Alistair MacLean's novel--the action follows an American Naval submarine team that is in a race with the Russians to retrieve sensitive photographic material in the Arctic. Torpedo blasts, saboteurs, double-crosses and double-agent civilian scientists caught in the cross-fire are part of the action.

The original 1968 film was a hit and starred Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan and Jim Brown

The deal may impact the development of Paramount Pictures's Mission: Impossible 5, which McQuarrie is attached to direct. Tom Cruise will be back to star in the action sequel but there is no clear timetable for either the Ice redux or MI:5.
