Box Office Preview: The Other Woman Hits The Bricks

This weekend at the cineplex Brick Mansions, (reviews) the U.S. remake of the French hit "Banlieue 13" (aka. "District B13") the final completed film starring actor Paul Walker who was killed last Fall in a tragic car crash... Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton are out for revenge against 3-timer Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the comedy The Other Woman (reviews). Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, and Olivia Cooke encounter dark forces in The Quiet Ones (reviews).

Nick Cassavetes' female-fueled comedy The Other Woman has a shot at winning the weekend box-office race with a North American debut as high as $20 million. The 20th Century Fox movie stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.

The Other Woman's chief competitors for the No. 1 spot will be holdovers Captain America: The Winter Soldier, faith-based film Heaven Is For Real and Rio 2.

Brick Mansions, the late Paul Walker's second-to-last film before Fast & Furious 7, and horror movie The Quiet Ones are looking at much more modest openings.

From a script by Melissa Stack, The Other Woman is about a woman (Diaz) who discovers her boyfriend is married. When she accidentally meets the wife (Mann), they become fast friends and, with the help of another girlfriend of the husband's, set out to get revenge. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Kinney also star. The comedy cost $40 million to produce.

Brick Mansions, from Luc Besson's EuropaCorp and Transfilm International, is expecting to debut in the $8 million to $10 million range. Relativity, which is releasing the action movie in the U.S., worked closely with Walker's team and family during the marketing process. The film, written by Besson, was a passion project for Walker, who died in November 2013 in a fiery crash while on break from shooting Fast & Furious 7.

Costing $28 million to produce and set in a dystopian Detroit, Brick Mansions is an English-language remake of the French film Banlieue 13 and stars Walker as an undercover cop who teams with an ex-convict to save their city from destruction. David Belle reprises his role as the ex-convict.

In honor of Walker's memory, Relativity and EuropaCorp have made a donation to Walker's charity, Reach Out WorldWide.

Horror film The Quiet Ones, from Lionsgate and Exclusive Media, should open in the $6 million to $8 million range. The PG-13 release is tracking strongest among younger females and Hispanics.

Inspired by true events, Quiet Ones was directed by John Pogue and stars Jared Harris, Sam Claflin and Olivia Cooke. The movie, set in an estate outside of London, revolves around a university president and a team of students who conduct an experiment on a young girl with unspeakable secrets.
