Cary Fukunaga Follows The Path Of "The Black Count"

Deadline reports that True Detective episode helmer Cary Fukunaga is set to pen the adapted script and call action on a big-screen version of the Tom Reiss award winning 2012 biography "The Black Count".

The book chronicles the life and adventures of  French Revolutionary War-era General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas. A favorite of Napoleon, Dumas became the highest-ranking person of color to ever serve in any European army. Those  exploits were used as the basis for the novels written by a man who would become even more famous - his son author Alexandre Dumas

The younger Dumas is responsible for such classic tales like The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers which have both been adapted for the big screen numerous times over the years.

Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius will produce the biopic.

R&B singer John Legend will executive produce the film.

Fukunaga will do this movie once he's finished his adaptation of author Uzodinma Iweala's bestselling novel "Beasts of No Nation" with "Pacific Rim" and "Luther" star Idris Elba. That film begins production next month in Ghana.
