Hanks And Spielberg Circle Cold War Spy Plane Film

Tom Hanks is attached to headline an as yet Untitled Cold War set project that Steven Spielberg could direct says THR,

Matt Charman wrote the true story inspired script that follows James B. Donovan (Hanks) an attorney who negotiated the release of downed U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers after an incident in 1960.

In the pipeline since last year, Hanks' attachment propels the project forward

Marc Platt will produce the pic.

If it comes together it will be Spielberg's fourth collaboration with Hanks, following Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal. They also served as executive producers on HBO's World War II mini-series' Band of Brothers.

The project joins the ever growing list of potential films that Spielberg could direct next--including the religious drama "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara".
