The action follows Max McGrath (Ben Winchell), a teenager with special turbo-energy powers. Together with his alien companion Steel, he becomes the superhero Max Steel.
Garcia will play the brilliant and mysterious scientist Dr. Miles Edwards.
Ana Villafañe will play Max's love interest, Sydney Gardner.
Christopher Yost ("Thor: The Dark World") wrote the script from which Stewart Hendler directs.
Julia Pistor and Bill O'Dowd will produce the film.
Production begins today in Wilmington.
