Alicia Vikander ("A Royal Affair," "Seventh Son") is tipped
to join the drama "The Light Between Oceans" reports Deadline.
An adaptation of author M.L. Stedman's debut novel,
the story follows a lighthouse keeper (Michael Fassbender) and his wife (Vikander) living on a remote
Australian island in the years following the end of World War I. The pair are soon faced with a moral dilemma when a boat
washes up on their with a dead man and a two-year-old. They raise the
child as their own with devastating consequences.
Derek Cianfrance ("Blue Valentine," "The Place Beyond the Pines") is set to direct
David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford will produce the film.
Vikander has also landed the female lead in the long planned true-life film titled “The Danish Girl".
Based on David Ebershoff's book about the life story of Danish painter Einar Wegener
(Eddie Redmayne) who in 1931 became the first person to go through a
sex-change operation to become a woman. His wife, the fashion
illustrator Gerda Wegener (Vikander) asked him to stand in for an absent female model. Putting on a dress, stockings and woman’s shoes he
began a metamorphosis into Lili. When the photos became very popular, Greta encouraged her husband to do more. The harmless
game evolved into something more and threatened their marriage. Greta
finally let go when she realized the man she married no longer existed.
Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) was attached to make the picture his English-language directorial debut in 2009, with Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron in the lead roles. He made the remake of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy instead. Theron was replaced with Gwyneth Paltrow as Lasse Hallström came on to direct, with Rachel Weisz joining, only to depart as well.
Les Misérables director Tom Hooper will helm from an adapted script by Lucinda Coxon.
Hooper, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner Gail Mutrux, Anne Harrison and Linda Reisman are producing the film.
