Frank Darabont Tipped For "Snow White And The Huntsman 2"

The Wrap reports that Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption") has been offered the job of directing Snow White and the Huntsman 2.

Darabont beat out Andy Muschietti ("Mama") and  Gavin O'Connor ("Warrior"). While  the decision has been made, he has reportedly not yet been presented with an offer yet.

Back in August 2012--it was revealed that Universal Pictures originally planned to continue the franchise by featuring two more films with Kristen Stewart as Snow White, then a spin-off with Chris Hemsworth alone. Due to Stewart's troubles for cheating on Robert Pattinson with Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, the studio was scrapping the current draft for the sequel, and “exploring options to continue the franchise” –with or without Stewart, And at that time said that"no decision has been made."

The reason Darabont was selected was that he seemingly pitched a new spin on the sequel that indeed puts the focus on the Huntsman character. As a result, Stewart may not even need to return as Snow White, if she does, it'll be in a significantly reduced capacity. It also means a title change.

Production could happen soon though, Hemsworth's schedule is clear once he wraps "Avengers: Age of Ultron »

Universal reportedly wants the sequel ready in time for a 2016 release.
