The Karate Kid 2 Loses Breck Eisner; Gets New Writers

Deadline reports that Breck Eisner has vacated the job of calling action on the sequel The Karate Kid 2. Scheduling conflicts is given as the reason for the departure.

Harald Zwart directed the 2010 film--itself a remake of the 1984 crowd-pleaser

Starring Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith and Taraji P. Henson the redux grossed $56 million on its opening weekend and ended up making $343 million worldwide.

Smith and Jackie Chan are reprising their roles for the sequel, but no story details have been released.

Two new writers Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer have been hired to redraft the script following the work of Kung Fu Panda scribes Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff  who wrote the previous draft.


The director is still attached to helm The Last Witch Hunter, in which Vin Diesel is set to star.
