"I Know What You Did Last Summer" Gets Redux

Variety reports that "Oculus" helmer and co-writer of  Mike Flanagan will chart a remake of the 1997 horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer" for Sony Pictures.

After writing "Scream," Kevin Williamson adapted the 'Know' script like a straightforward slasher film and based it on a 1973 young adult suspense novel by author Lois Duncan.

In the story, four teenagers are stalked and murdered one by one by a killer fisherman a year after a seemingly fatal hit and run which they agree to cover-up.

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe starred in the original film which spawned two sequels--1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and the 2006 DTV title I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,

The new version is expected to be shot on a tight budget and will feature mostly unknowns. It's currently targeting a 2016 release date.
