Russell Crowe is reportedly the front runner to appear opposite Beyonce in the remake of A Star Is Born according to the LA Times.
Crowe would play an aging, alcoholic musician who mentors a gets romantically involved with a younger female star.
The part has previously attracted attention from Robert Downey Jr and Sean Penn.
Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook," "Alpha Dog") has recently been in talks to direct. Will Fetters wrote the most recent draft. The team of Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson--Reggie Rock Bythewood wrote previous drafts.
Jon Peters, Basil Iwanyk and Bill Gerber are producing the latest version of the tale...told on screen in 1937, 1954--with Judy Garland and 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Like the '76 pic this version will be set in the music industry rather than movies like the first two films.
Crowe and Beyonce--I like the idea of that on screen pairing a lot
