Days Of Winer & Roses

Episodic director of TV hit Modern Family Jason Winer will call the shots on the remake of the 'classic' Dudley Moore comedy, Arthur. says The Hollywood Reporter

Russell Brand will star, portraying the title character that Moore played in the 1981 original-a wild playboy who will inherit the family fortune if he marries the woman of his family's choosing. He becomes torn, though, when he falls for a working-class woman and has to decide between his fortune and love.

Peter Baynham writes the new version.

Meryl Streep is in the running to recreate the butler role, which won Sir John Gielgud an Oscar in the original.

Larry Brezner Kevin McCormick and Chris Bende will produce the updated pic.

Winer, who has directed 10 of Modern Family's first-season episodes, recently won a Directors Guild of America award for directing the series pilot.

I enjoy Modern a lot--And I don't like the notion of Arthur being redone but as Winer (and Streep) name is tacked on....I can't help but be piqued
