Viola Davis will co-produce and may star in a biopic of African-American political pioneer Barbara Jordan says Variety.
Based on the book Barbara Jordan: American Hero by Mary Beth Rogers--the story follows Jordan's rise from a poor Houston neighborhood to an elected member of Congress and an influential figure in liberal politics, especially when she addressed Congress on the merits of impeachment for President Richard M. Nixon following the Watergate scandal. Later in her life she battled MS. She died in 1996.
Paris Qualles is adapting the book for the screen
Davis and her husband Julius Tennon will produce the film along with Paris Barclay, Shelly Glasser and Diane Nabatoff.
Barclay will also direct, he and Davis previously worked on the medical drama "City of Angels" a little over a decade ago.
