31 Days Of Horror Day 2: The Prowler

The director and personal pal Jason Christopher discusses The Prowler as this special month long event celebrating horror movies continues!

Hell, I love this movie! I honestly don’t even remember how I first heard about this 1981 movie. What’s better than a man in an army uniform going out murdering people?

The movie starts off with a woman named Rosemary who is writing a nice farewell letter to her boyfriend serving in WWII. On June 28th, 1945 Rosemary and her new man leave a graduation dance in New Jersey to go and be alone. I’m not going to give anything away on what happens next but I will say just one word– PITCHFORK!

35 years later, the small town in Jersey prepares for another graduation dance. There hasn’t been a dance since the fatal night long ago. Of course, a man dressed up in an army outfit is out for blood. Everyone is cautious as the tale unravels and we discover who the masked man is.

Now, this movie is bad ass and I don’t want to keep talking about it because I don’t want to spoil a damn thing. The knife scene is completely amazing both knife scenes! The special effects in this movie are just flat out amazing. Definitely, Tom Savini’s best work, ever.

I purchased the DVD years ago at Best Buy.Traded in the DVD for the Blu Ray. Got that on Amazon for a nice little price.

Joseph Zito made the movie three years before making Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter. Ya know, one of the last good Jason movies...!

The special effects and make-up looks so damn good. Very realistic and that’s why I think this movie is is in the top 5 on my list of favorite horror movies! It came out a year later than Maniac and that has the same realistic fx tone to it.

The movie sorta has this My Bloody Valentine vibe to it, love in the beginning, angry people, people die, and roll credits. Sounds like every movie, right? This movie has its similarities to other 80’s slasher movies but was definitely one of the first in that decade that had an impact on the future of horror movies.

Definitely check out The Prowler if you haven’t yet. 29 days left till Halloween
