31 Days Of Horror Day 23: Halloween II (2009)

Yesterday director Jason Christopher talked about one of the worst genre remakes ever made in my opinion--the 2007 version of Halloween. Now he's talking about its 2009 sequel Halloween II as this special month long event celebrating horror prepares to ride a white horse!

Whenever a movie in Hollywood has phenomenal box office and there’s potential for a sequel…yes they’ll do anything as fast as they can to make another one. Just look at the Paranormal Activity movies, one every year. Rob Zombie had no intention to make a Halloween  sequel and the studio was going to get someone else to move forward with it. Zombie then decided to do a sequel and I think he literally did whatever the hell he wanted to do because he knew he could.

On the back cover of the blu ray: Evil has a new destiny. Michael Myers is back in this terrifying sequel to Rob Zombie’s visionary re-imagining of Halloween 2. It is that time of year again, and Michael Myers has returned home to sleepy Haddonfield, Illinois to take care of some unfinished family business. Unleashing a trail of terror that only horror master Zombie can. Myers will stop at nothing to bring closure to the secrets of his twisted past. But the town’s got an unlikely new hero, if they can only stay alive long enough to stop the unstoppable.

The movie picks up the frame where the first one left off. I love sequels that do that. Hatchet does that, and that’s cool. The movie does this weird turn with horses, it’s really confusing. I understand the movie and I actually like the sequel better than the first one. A lot of people didn’t understand the second one and just hated it! Hated it! I know so many people who loathe Zombie’s second one. I completely dug it though. I really enjoyed how raw it was, the story was great. I really enjoyed seeing all the characters and what happened to them a year later. That made it fun.

The Blu-ray and dvd have the same features I believe. The features don’t come close to what the 2007 Halloween had on it and that’s pretty much a bummer. I would’ve loved to see another 4 ½ hour documentary on the making off Halloween 2. Love it!

What I didn’t like about Halloween 2 it seemed to be rushed. Listening to the commentary, sounds like the company just wanted to get it out and rushed to do so. From theater to dvd release it all happened so quickly. That’s something that studios just need to shut up and chill over. You’ll get the same amount of money if not more if you just take your time with it as opposed to rushing it. It’s going to get a ton of negative reviews and you’ll lose that money in video release. I’m actually shocked that Halloween 3D hasn’t been released yet. They must’ve learned from their mistakes!

So check out both Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1 and 2. I highly recommend them, Just fun movies with a nice visual aspect to them. So check ‘em out and enjoy!

By the way, anybody watching Dexter this season? So good! Lemme know what you think on twitter @jayjaymay...

8 days till Halloween.
