With Robert Downey Jr.'s. existing contract with Marvel now fulfilled, talks are about to get underway with the cast members of "The Avengers 2", and going in RDJ is said to have a lot of leverage.
Its been no secret that the Marvel was not happy with Downey's earlier deal which saw him take a big portion of worldwide grosses for the Marvel films in which he stars. Between "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3", Downey is expected to earn well over $100 million.
Marvel has already recast, or threatened recasting, any actors who have challenge their contracts or pay. Some of Downey's "Avengers" co-stars for example received only $200,000 each for their work - as opposed to the several million they could get doing other projects.
With "The Avengers 2" though, Marvel and Disney could encounter problems since several major cast member deals aren't locked down yet. In fact, Downey is allegedly using his influence to help his co-stars achieve better paydays.
Deadline's source says: "He’s the only guy with real power in this situation, and balls of steel, too. He’s already sent a message that he’s not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like sh*t."
Several of the actors are reportedly not keen on cutting their rates (most notably Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson), but a lot will depend upon their already signed pre-existing deals.
At the same time, THR says that the Downey & Marvel negotiations are focusing solely on a second and third "Avengers" movie, and NOT "Iron Man 4" - Making it unclear if we'll see Downey appearing in another solo Tony Stark story.
