Christoph Waltz ("Django Unchained") has joined the action thriller "Candy Store" says Heat Vision.
The story is set in the criminal underworld of Brooklyn and follows a former
operative (Jason Clarke) who discovers the global
organization he fought is now in his backyard. He teams up with a disgraced local cop (Robert De
Niro) to investigate, running afoul of an international sex trade
entrepreneur (Omar Sy), a Cold War consigliere
posing as an American suburbanite (Waltz), and a beautiful girl, uncovering a
plan to detonate a nuclear bomb in Manhattan.
Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington were up for those roles, with the likes of Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Bradley Cooper on various wishlists. Last Fall Chris Hemsworth was eyed Christoph Waltz was said to have an offer to star as well Jamie Foxx was reportedly said to be keen to take one of the roles in "Candy" as well.
Stephen Gaghan will be directing from the screenplay he wrote with Shannon Burke
Gaghan of course won an Academy Award for writing Steven Soderbergh's Traffic. He also co-wrote M. Night Shyamalan upcoming sci-fi film After Earth.
Allison Shearmur and Gaghan will produce.
