Guardians Of The Galaxy: New Pics And The MCU

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has three new photos from James Gunn's film adaptation of Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy".

Gunn discussed how this movie fits into the Cinematic Universe

Billed as the "only stand-alone adventure" of Phase Two, the events of which are "definitely connected to The Avengers 3". A big part of that synergy is the villainous Thanos (seen in the credit post-script of The Avengers). He will be portrayed through motion-capture in "Galaxy".

As for the other villains in the movie, Thanos is "the head of the snake." He's also key to the back stories of Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana): "Thanos slaughtered [Gamora's] family and Nebula's, then raised them together as siblings. They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he's really good at killing people."

Here's the official film synopsis:

...An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.

But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

The film arrives August 1, 2014.
