Dredd Sequel? Try Prquel Instead...

What is the status of the proposed sequel to 2012's "Dredd"?

The original British comic created by John Wagner was much darker and grittier than the big-budget 1995 film version starring Sylvester Stallone that was a stinker....The reviews were much much better for the reboot that starred Karl Urban Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey as the villain Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal --and it was more in line with the original vision.

Attending the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Urban now says that a prequel, rather than a sequel, is more likely.

He tells Shallow Graves:

"Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo."

In the comics, Dredd was said to be a clone from first Chief Judge Fargo who was never seen again after that revelation. Max von Sydow portrayed an incarnation  of the character in the 1995 film.
