Sam Raimi has announced in a press release that he was creating Spooky Picture, a division of his Ghost House Pictures, with the intention of making "scary movies for a family audience."
The first film to be produced under the banner will be The Substitute, a remake of a Danish film by Ole Bornedal. The remake will be directed by Scott Derrickson from a script he's co-writing with Paul Harris Boardman ( Hellraiser: Inferno)
Derrickson previously helmed The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose..
This announcement follows a similar label deal between Disney and Guillermo del Toro to make scary flicks for family audiences through Double Dare You...
This is a great idea...Most kids like being scared--I know I did (and still do)--But films like the Saw franchise are not made for that demo...An untapped genre and audience...
