Burton Says Farewell to 'Maleficent'

Tim Burton will NOT call action on Maleficent, the live-action feature based on the villain from the 1959 animated film "Sleeping Beauty" reports Heat Vision.

This film will be told from the antagonist's point of view The original 'Beauty' was only really praised mostly for its artwork and for the Maleficent character - an evil queen that morphs into a dragon.

Burton was always loosely attached to the project, but was close enough to it to have his "Alice in Wonderland" writer Linda Woolverton  pen the script which was being developed as a starring vehicle for Angelina Jolie who at this point is still attached.

David Yates,, who helmed the last four films in the Harry Potter series is being mentioned as a potential replacement
