First they battled for the lead in "The Bourne Legacy", now actor Joel Edgerton andLuke Evans are said to be in contention for the role of Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D version of The Great Gatsby says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel Leo DiCaprio stars as the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby who still pines for his former flame Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan).
Luhrmann who adapted the script with Craig Pearce had originally planned to get Ben Affleck to play Tom Buchanan, Daisy's wealthy husband who has a mistress (Isla Fisher).
Affleck had to pass due to scheduling conflicts. Nick Carraway is being played by Tobey Maguire Newcomer Elizabeth Debicki is Jordan Baker
Edgerton and Evans both had readings for the role in recent days but no decision has been officially made.
Edgerton may have an edge coming from Sydney where the film's shooting - the more local actors Luhrmann uses, the better the production's chances of a tax break.
Stay Tuned...
Shooting on the project kicks off in August.
