Trek 2: Abrams, Originals Orci & Burk Bits

While the well has been dry regarding any BIG news for the as yet Untitled Star Trek Sequel--the dribble has begun...

Director J.J. Abrams told MTV News that the new film will be shot in 2D and converted to 3D later, with some scenes possibly being shot in IMAX.

"We're shooting on film, 2-D, and then we'll do a good high-end conversion like the Harry Potter movie and all that. Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good. We were talking about [IMAX] and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favorite format; I'm a huge fan" says Abrams.

The sets are said to be ready as the film begins shooting next month. Abrams adds that he's so happy with the script that the blame will be all on him if this film doesn't do well

Alice Eve is in serious talks for a major role as is former "Robocop" star Peter Weller.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all returning to the Final Frontier in their respective roles

Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof wrote the script.

The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison.

Orci told TrekMovie that there is a part in the pic for Admiral Pike (Bruce Greenwood) and that he's hoping the actor will say yes and join the film

Showbizz 411 claims that none of the original classic cast are part of the sequel

And finally Burk talked to MTV as well and while the subject of the villain came up...there was no mention of Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez as the "front-runner," for the role

The sequel will open on May 17th 2013.
