Latino Review posted a "scoop" from an un named source that claims that the villan in the as yet Untitled Star Trek Sequel will indeed be Kahn be played by Benicio del Toro...
Khan Noonien Singh the genetically enhanced human of the 1967 episode of "Star Trek" called Space Seed as well as the big screen sequel Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan played by Ricardo Montalban and in the process solidified himself as the best Trek villain period...
My gut said Kahn ever since Del Toro's name came up as the bad guy--but I have been against using the character again--since I think doing remakes in any film going forward is both lazy and only serves to piss off half of those trekkers who say Give me something fresh in the newly created timeline.
And I'm sorry but in this case no one need ever to be compared to Montalban--Now I know some said the same thing about recasting the crew too--and that turned out fine...True but they needed to recast those beloved characters to make the reboot happen--And Spock Prime (Leonard Nimoy) was there as the catalyst.
HitFix says they've contacted director J.J. Abrams about this report, and he responded with a "Not true." Of course, Abrams is a master at denials and there''s no way that he would've said Yes anyway
Alice Eve is in serious talks for a major role as well With all the Kahn talk intensifying now despite the "new" character thing could she be playing Lt. Marla McGivers played by Madlyn Rhue in Space Seed?
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all returning to the Final Frontier in their respective roles
Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof wrote the script.
The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison.
Production starts mid-January; The sequel will open on May 17th 2013 and is being shot in 3-D
