Refn Nixes "Drive" Sequel...Sorta

If you are hoping for a sequel to last year's cult classic "Drive" will have to wait a bit.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn told The Burnley Citizen (via The Playlist) that while a direct sequel to the film will NOT take place, Ryan Gosling's enigmatic lead character may instead show up in a different film… at some point.

When asked about a direct sequel, Refn said "That is never going to happen. But the character of the driver might return in another film. We're playing with that idea. We'll see what happens."

Author James Sallis wrote the book on which "Drive" was based and hinted in June that a film was being developed based on the book's sequel "Driven".

In the new follow-up book the story is set seven years later with Driver having reinvented himself and  living in Phoenix. Now engaged to be married he is successfully suppressing his violent impulses. When two goons attack them and kill her, "the violence is unleashed again."
