The team behind this Summer's big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's supernatural novel series "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" must be feeling pretty optimistic about their film...THR says that there's already an adaptation of "Infernal Devices"--the prequel book series to 'Bones' in the pipeline.
Based on the first book "City of Bones" and set in contemporary New York City, the story follows a seemingly ordinary teenager Fray (Lily Collins) who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. She soon join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
The Mortal Instruments is set for release on August 23rd, 2013.
Stephanie Sanditz, an actress with no real screenplay experience has already been hired to pen the adapted script. Devices is a 3-book prequel series that takes place in Victorian England and features the ancestors of characters from The Mortal Instruments series which is set in the present. The prequel centers on an orphan named Tessa who is looking for her missing brother.
The search for a director is currently underway.
This is quite the gamble considering that recent YA Book adapted pics like the one for author Stephenie Meyer's book The Host and Beautiful Creatures by authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl did not exactly light up the box office
