The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future and focuses on a squad of soldiers that searches for a fabled city of gold while on a tour of duty in Mexico liberating it from an alien race known as Orcs.
Amel wrote the spec script which Diesel is attached to star in and produce. Samantha Vincent and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will also produce the film.
The aim is to launch an ensemble-type franchise much like the studio's Fast and the Furious film franchise at Universal Pictures.
