Jack Black Comes Down With A Case Of "Goosebumps"

The Wrap reports that Jack Black is in is in talks to star in the long in the works live-action film adaptation of Goosebumps.

Based upon author R.L. Stine's popular young-adult novel series is made up of more than 50 books that often pay homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies. After nabbing the rights to the book series in 2008, Sony Pictures has been trying to adapt the property. The "Goosebumps" series sold more than 300 million copies worldwide.

Black would play a Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to confront his own creations.

Darren Lemke ("Shrek Forever After") was at least the fourth writer to take a shot at scripting the project. Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, and Carl Ellsworth have all taken a whack at it.

Rob Letterman is directing, he and Black having previously worked together on 2010's "Gulliver's Travels" and "Shark Tale".

Neal Moritz and Deborah Forte will produce.

The property has been adapted as a TV series in the 90's

This first film treatment is looked upon as a potential franchise launcher.
