Carrie Brownstein Makes Film Debut In "Carol"

THR reports that singer/actress Carrie Brownstein has joined the film adaptation of author Patricia Highsmith's "Carol" (aka "The Price Of Salt".


The film traces the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One is a twenty-something girl named Therese ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Side Effects" actress Rooney Mara) working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, the other is a wife trapped in a loveless marriage (Cate Blanchett) to husband Kyle Chandler ("The Wolf of Wall Street," "Zero Dark Thirty")

Brownstein will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman who has an encounter with Therese. 

Cory Michael Smith will play a traveling salesman who meets up with Mara and Blanchett‘s characters Sarah Paulson plays Blanchett's ex-lover and current confidante. John Magaro (Not Fade Away") will play Dannie, a writer with an artistic spirit who works at The New York Times.

Phyllis Nagy penned the adapted script. Filmmaker Todd Haynes ("I'm Not There," "Far from Heaven")  is set to direct the film

Boy A director was previously linked as director but vacated over scheduling conflicts.

Elizabeth Karlsen, Stephen Woolley and Christine Vachon will produce.

Haynes and Blanchett worked together on "I'm Not There".
