Like the Twilight film series and The Hunger Games film series before it--The last book in author Veronica Roth's young adult novel series is getting a two film finale.
Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate have confirmed plans to split the film adaptation of "Allegiant", into two parts. "Allegiant Part 1" is on course for a March 18th 2016 release while "Allegiant Part 2" will be released on March 24th 2017.
In an official press release, the studio suits Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsbergers say: "The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we're tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise."
There is one difference over the other franchises that have done two-part finales like the Harry Potter film series and the two aforementioned "Twilight" and "Hunger Games". In this case, the two parts will NOT be shot all at once and finished separately. Instead, they'll be produced as two completely separate films.
