Timecop Redux Nabs "Journey 2" Writers

Heat Vision reports that "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" writing duo and will script the Timecop remake for Universal Pictures.

Based on the Dark Horse Comics title, created by Mark Verheiden and Mike Richardson--story takes place in a world where time travel is possible and the police regulate the use of it.

The 1994 Peter Hyams’ film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as an officer who tries to go back in time to save his wife from being killed as part of a conspiracy. Ron Silver played the bad guy. Mia Sara co-starred as Jcvd’s wife, and a pre-”ERGloria Reuben played his partner.

The remake is likely going to be more of a reboot, taking the premise and re-imagining the concept so it could serve as a potential franchise launcher. We can also expect the film to be a more "gritty and grounded police story" with the sci-fi elements in the background rather than upfront.

Marc Shmuger and Tom McNulty will produce.
