Fincher And Mara Swoop In For "Red Sparrow"

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" director David Fincher and actress Rooney Mara are reportedly keen to reunite on the film adaptation of author Jason Matthews spy novel "Red Sparrow".


Set in contemporary Russia, the story follows a female state intelligence officer drafted against her will to become a 'Sparrow,' a trained seductress in the service.She is soon assigned a first-tour CIA officer who handles the agency's most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. The two young officers collide in a charged atmosphere of deception and sexual attraction.She soon seeks revenge against her soulless masters, whilst helping the CIA to ferret out a high-level traitor in Washington.

THR is also reporting that Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle") is in talks to pen the adapted script for the project.

Darren Aronofsky had been in talks to do the movie since last August but decided to move on. He's  considering other options for his next film.

Steve Zaillian, Peter Chernin and Garrett Basch will produce the movie.
