Lone Ranger Rides Again

The writers behind the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Ted Elliott &Terry Rossio, are in final negotiations to pen the big screen comeback for of the western genre's most enduring figures-The Lone Ranger.

Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer will oversee the project according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The character first came to life as a 1930s radio show before making the leap to the big screen as a number of movie serials, with Clayton Moore in the title role and Jay Silverheels (both pictured) as his trusted sidekick Tonto. The pair took their adventures to the small screen from 1949-57.

I used to love watching the serials and episode reruns as a kid with my parents and have been a fan ever since. Moore and Silverheels have proven a tough act to follow....

-Comic strips, books, toys, and more popped up along the way-

Hopefully, with the talent involved the update will be better than...

The last feature film attempt resulted in the 1981 stinker "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" with Klinton Spilsbury .

Even worse was the TV movie/backdoor pilot from 03 with Chad Michael Murray (of the teen angst TV drama One Tree Hill) in the role and yes as fan of the Ranger I was an unlucky viewer the night it aired.

Fingers Crossed on casting and director...
