Bon Voyage Henry

Film studio LAIKA Inc announced today that The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick has left the company after five years following the expiration of his contract reports Oregon Live.

"Henry is a brilliant, inspirational, and visionary artist whose contributions are indelibly etched into the very DNA of LAIKA. We are tremendously proud of what we created together. Throughout our five years of collaboration, Henry has been variously my director, my mentor, and my friend. I will miss him and wish him well in his future projects" says President and CEO Travis Knight via a press release.

LAIKA and Selick teamed for the stop-motion feature "Coraline" which was both a financial and critical success earlier this year.

A few weeks ago the company announced it was cutting back its computer animation division to work on stop-motion animated features exclusively.

At the time we were told that Selick would be continuing to develop new features for the studio as the company's supervising director.

Selick, LAIKA and Focus Features will continue to work together when promoting "Coraline" during the upcoming film awards season
