Chatting with the Coming Soon gang, actor James Woods says that he'll soon step behind the camera, to direct Kristen Stewart in film called An American Girl.
Woods purchased the script himself from writers Tim Metcalfe (”Kalifornia,” “The Haunting in Connecticut”) and Sean McCarthy, and told Stewart he wouldn't make the pic with anyone but her in the lead...
Since reading it, Stewart is locked in and as ready as Woods to get cracking on it.
The story as detailed by Woods, concerns "a young woman who is really destructive. It's that magical time right after you're out of high school. She was the top swimmer and dive champion in school. Now it's a year later and she lives in a little town in Indiana and the place is dying, she's working in a grocery store and drinking and drugging too much and she's showing off in front of this guy who likes her, and gets involved in a big sex thing with two guys drunk one night at a quarry..."
There's also a military component ala G.I. Jane in the pic
"It's a phenomenal story," says Woods, "and a slam-dunk Oscar for Kristen."
He's already spent time with Stewart and the writers, but says he's unlikely to act in the film himself, preferring to direct and produce. Then it's off to find a studio...
Stewart is a fine actress but isn't Woods getting a bit ahead of himself with "slam dunk" talk?
....He also reveals a little info about his character for the Straw Dogs remake... Called "Tom Hedden, a smalltown Southern football coach turned alcoholic" who "causes trouble" for screen couple James Marsden and Kate Bosworth.
