Marlon Wayans is in final discussions to play comedy legend Richard Pryor in the biopic: Is It Something I Said? says Entertainment Weekly.
The $20 million production depicts Pryor's controversial brand of comedy and his battle with drugs.
Wayans beat out Eddie Murphy who had been circling the coveted role last winter for his Dreamgirls' boss Bill Condon who will pen the script and direct.
Pryor's widow Jennifer Lee Pryor Chris Rock, Adam Sandler Jack Giarraputo, and Mark Gordon will produce.
Variety says that Condon was having trouble shopping the project around due to the salary that Murphy was demanding —What???--Murphy priced himself out of playing his self proclaimed idol...???
Sure Wayans can do funny in the Scary Movie films and be the comic relief in G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra--but see his dramatic turn in 1999’s Requiem for a Dream and you'll realize he can do dramatic stuff quite well too.
