Road Leads To Ranger

Justin Haythe ("Revolutionary Road") is in negotiations to script producer Jerry Bruckheimer's new film version of "The Lone Ranger" says THR's Heat Vision blog

The story follows a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West who goes about fighting injustice with the help of his horse Silver and his Native-American sidekick Tonto.

This has been in the pipeline for about 18 months...

Johnny Depp is already set to star as Tonto, but the Ranger himself is not yet cast and a director is not yet locked...Though Mike Newell who just finished Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for Bruckheimer--was mentioned for the job at one point.... But he is now attached to work on adapting The Terminal Spy for the screen says Variety.

Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio were attached to write Ranger at one time

The character is well-known from long-running TV and radio shows, notably the 1949-1957 series starring Clayton Moore (and later John Hart) as Ranger and Jay Silverheels as Tonto. The last revival was a 2003 telefilm starring Chad Michael Murray.
