Friday Film Bits For You

-Leo DiCaprio will star in and produce Legacy of Secrecy, a film adaptation of Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann's book about the John F. Kennedy assassination reports Variety. Meantime Leo told Coming Soon  that filming on  Clint Eastwood’s Hoover biopic will start filming around January or February

-Spanish filmmaker Gonzalo López-Gallego takes over as director of the found footage/sci-fi thriller Apollo 18 reports Deadline. Trevor Cawood was originally attached to direct and use his own effects company to do the visual effects on the low-budget film which is being rushed to get it ready for cinemas by March 4th. However his company is busy on other projects and would have not been able to complete the effects on time. As a result Lopez-Gallego takes over. Director Timur Bekmambetov who is producing the film, will handle the visual effects through his Moscow-based company. The pic was written by Brian Miller winner of a screenplay contest started by the Wanted filmmaker.

-No surprise here--George Clooney is in early discussions to re-team with often collaborator Steven Soderbergh for the film adaptation of the TV series, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." reports The Playlist.

-Also not a surprise- Robert Downey Jr. has officially left Alfonso Cuaron’s long casting nightmare of a sci-fi action thriller Gravity for a starring role in the adaptation of the book "How to Talk to Girls" says Heat Vision.

-Tom Shadyac is apparently on the shortlist to direct The Incredible Mr. Limpet remake, but the filmmaker says his "environmentally conscious comedy" probably won't  go over well with the studios - “I don’t think it’s going to happen. The studio may have someone else whose take they like more".

-Author Daniel Clowes will adapt his own graphic novel "Wilson" into a film reports Deadline The story follows an opinionated middle-aged loner who only loves his dog and so tries to find an emotional connection with his ex-wife. Sideways filmmaker Alexander Payne, may helm the pic
