Zemeckis Hitting The Bricks? [Updated]

Yet another film using the Oz stories by L. Frank Baum as its framework this time though it's a straight forward remake of 1939's "The Wizard of Oz", reports Deadline.

Robert Zemeckis  is in talks to direct the live-action film which will be based on the script for the film classic.

The film would be in direct competition with several other projects based on the classic literary property, like Oz: The Great and Powerful with Sam Raimi calling action and Robert Downey Jr set to star.

The other Oz films in the pipeline include a sequel to The Wizard of Oz called Surrender Dorothy" which Zach Helm ("Stranger Than Fiction") penned and Drew Barrymore is rumoured to be directing; the animated musical "Dorothy of Oz "; the film adaptation of the hit musical Wicked a project simply called Oz by Darren Lemke; a darker and twisted take on the Oz books by Josh Olson and Todd McFarlane called Oz: The Return to Emerald City; and a CG-animated pic from John Boorman

Ugha!

According to, EW  on Thursday Zemeckis took a meeting, but decided to take a pass “The reports that Robert Zemeckis is doing The Wizard of Oz are absolutely false."
