RIP Leslie Nielsen (1926 – 2010)

Veteran actor Leslie Nielsen has died from compactions due to Pneumonia ....

His management released a statement;

We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun Series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60 year career in motion pictures and television.”

Nielsen's nephew  tells Vancouver Sun  "He had been in the hospital with pneumonia for the past 12 days, and in the last 48 hours it just got worse.[Yesterday] surrounded by family, his wife and friends, he basically just fell asleep. It was very peaceful. He was truly a nice man. A very caring, naturally funny guy in day-to-day life, not just because someone wrote something on paper for him. He was a very tender-hearted man. He was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly. I'll miss him greatly."

Nielsen worked for over 60 years in TV and movies, first gaining attention as a serious actor in such films as the sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet. The success of which led to roles in Hot Summer Night, Tammy and the Bachelor, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The New Breed, The Bold Ones: The Protectors and The Poseidon Adventure, before trio David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams, cast him in the madcap comedy disaster spoof  Airplane! and the TV series Police Squad! which spawned the films and gave him a second career as a funny man

Dracula: Dead and Loving It, the family drama Nuts illustrate the 2 career notion...

He worked right up until his death, most recently starring in the horror spoof Stan Helsing, with appearances in Spanish Movie, Stonerville and the upcoming pic The Waterman Movie

As someone who grew up watching his work I will miss him...
