RIP Dino De Laurentiis (1919-2010)

Legendary Italian film producer and entrepreneur Dino De Laurentiis passed away at his Beverly Hills home yesterday. He was 91.

As is the case films from my childhood spring to mind first and Mr.De Laurentiis had a hand in bringing many of them to the screen-- cult classics like 'Flash Gordon', 'Barbarella' and 'Dune He oversaw films such as Serpico, Death Wish and the 1976 remake of King Kong. Conan the Barbarian, Breakdown, The Bounty, and U-571.

He also helped introduce us to one of the screen's Best Villains  Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter, which was remade and called, Red Dragon, Hannibal and Hannibal Rising

You can also add Mandingo, Blue Velvet and The Shootist to the list. He had two Oscar wins one for Federico Fellini's "La Strada" and another for "War and Peace"

He also ruffled a feather or 2 at times like during auditions for Jessica Lange’s part in his 1976 remake of Kong, he called Meryl Streep “a pig.” He had the courtesy to do it in Italian, but it turned out Steep spoke the language fluently “I’m very sorry that I disappoint you,” she shot back...
