David Fincher is using the site Kickstarter to ask for money to develop a CG animated film adaptation of "The Goon" based on Dark Horse Entertainment comic says THR.
Created by Eric Powell in March of 1999, the series follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The tales have a paranormal and comedic bent to them.
The project has been in development since 2008 with Fincher as executive producer.
Tim Miller and Jeff Fowler would co-direct. There was even a proof of concept trailer developed sometime back which you can watch on Vimeo. Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown voiced the characters of Franky and The Goon on said test footage reel in 2010.
The money woes came about because the film would be at least a PG-13. These days folks skiddish to back animated movies that aren't made as family entertainment.
Fincher and Miller have posted a video asking for $400,000 to help fund a story reel for the project.
