Winstead Has Inside Track For Cap 2 Female Lead

The casting rumors on who will play the female lead in the comic book sequel "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" continue today courtesy of  Latino Review as another name enters the fray.

The site reports that actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead seemingly "has the most traction" for the role. They add that the five actresses previously mentioned - Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown-Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie - remain in the mix.

The story is expected to follow the acclaimed comic storyline The Winter Soldier in which Captain America's (Chris Evans) sidekick Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is resurrected as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider.

The role in the comic storyline folows that Peggy Carter's (played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger) niece Sharon meets Cap. Winstead worked with Evans in the comic book adapted Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

The site adds that Josh Holloway, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kevin Durand will apparently be screen testing for two very physical male roles in the pic.

Anthony Mackie is poised to play Harlem crime fighter Falcon, one of mainstream comics' first black superheroes. Falcon, aka. Sam Wilson, can telepathically talk to birds and has a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength.

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo will direct the sequel, using a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Scarlett Johansson will apparently show up as Black Widow in the film. How big a role she'll play is also unknown.

Production is starting come March.

The sequel will hit theaters April 4, 2014.
