Theo James Takes Lead In Underworld 5

We found out late last month that Lakeshore Entertainment was moving forward with a reboot of its Underworld film series.

THR reports that Divergent” star Theo James to star in the 5th film. James, played a vampire named David in 2013's Underworld: Awakening--And he will be the central character in the new film, which is not a reboot but rather an expansion of the existing universe. Sources say there was an option on James because of his work on the previous film, and he'll star opposite two new female characters.

Casting is underway for those roles. Kate Beckinsale will not return for her Selene role after starring in all of the previous films.

Cory Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter) is attached to pen the script.

No director has been hired yet.

Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.

The hope is for cameras to roll by next spring for a likely 2016 release

The vampire vs. werewolves franchise started in 2003 with “Underworld,” directed by Len Wiseman, followed by 2006’s “Underworld: Evolution,”  2009’s “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” and 2012’s “Awakening,” which grossed $160 million worldwide.
