THR reports that Todd Haynes will call action on the long in the works biopic about singer Peggy Lee.
The story will explore the professional and personal life of the singer, prolific songwriter, composer and actress who is considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists in history.
Reese Witherspoon will star as Lee. She secured the rights to Lee's story from the late singer's estate back in 2010.
Nora Ephron was initially attached to write and direct the biopic, although the project stalled after she passed away in June 2012. Doug Wright (Quills, Two Lovers) performed a rewrite of the screenplay.
Witherspoon will produce alongside Marc Platt. The duo worked together on the music biopic Walk the Line that allowed Witherspoon to Strut Her Stuff as June Carter Cash.
